The Department for Health and Sanitation convened a planning meeting to sensitise county pharmacists on the process of quantification for health commodity requirements in the county.

Supported by Village Reach, the meeting brought together a representative from all 11 sub counties, with an aim to strengthen the county’s capacity for evidence-based forecasting. The meeting was also purposed to plan for and ensure continuous availability of essential health commodities across all health facilities.

The Deputy Director of Health Products and Technologies, Paul Kare, said that the sensitization was essential for ensuring optimal patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and efficient commodity management within the healthcare system.

“The quantification process will subsequently guide required estimates for health commodities within the county,” he said.

He added that accurate quantification ensures the continuous availability of essential medical products compared to excess inventory, which leads to increased costs, storage strain, and even product expiration.

The County Pharmacist, Dr Brian Muyokani, emphasized the importance of accurate data and collaborative planning in ensuring efficient supply chain management.

The  team was also sensitised on quantification methodologies, data collection for quantification, and utilization of data collection tools during the quantification process.

George Nzioka, the Village Reach Senior Supply Chain Manager, emphasized shared responsibility to allow for sustainability in the management of health supplies. This, he said, will promote long-term efficiency and resilience of the county ‘s health system.

“Providing essential technical expertise in data management and quantification methodologies will enhance the capacity of county and sub-county teams to make research-based decisions,” he added.

Participants were county and sub-county health management team teams among other and Village Reach representatives.
