The Chief Officer Medical Services, Dr Gilchrist Lokoel in a courtesy call hosted Dr Eric Apiyo, Senior Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical Services to review progress on the distribution of medical oxygen and patient-monitoring equipment to 13 health facilities across Turkana. The Objective is to scale up medical Oxygen access to strengthen Health Systems Resilience.
This strategic initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Department of Health and Sanitation to enhance service delivery, improve facility readiness, and ensure equitable access to essential healthcare services for all.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chief Officer reiterated County Government’s commitment to strengthening the health system through improved infrastructure and streamlined resource allocation.
“The deployment of oxygen and patient-monitoring equipment marks a significant milestone in our efforts to ensure that every health facility is adequately equipped to provide timely and quality care. This investment will greatly benefit our communities, particularly those in remote and underserved areas,” Dr Lokoel stated.
Dr Apiyo lauded the county’s proactive approach and pledged continued support and collaboration to ensure the successful implementation of the distribution exercise.
“We remain committed to working closely with the County Government of Turkana to ensure that this equipment reach the designated facilities and contributes to improved patient outcomes,” he said.
This is part of the national government’s investment in Medical Oxygen infrastructure by the Ministry of Health in partnership in collaboration with AMREF Health Africa, Council of Governors, and Global Fund.
The supply of these equipments has been rolled out under the C19RM Oxygen infrastructure project which was recently launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sanitation, Aden Duale to ensure that health facilities are better equiped to respond to emergencies and be able to save lives .
In attendance were Paul Ereng, the Deputy Director, Health Products and Technologies, Janet Elaar, the Equipment Lead, and Gordon from Osalo Amref Health Africa.
