Turkana Climate Board tracks progress of Climate-Action projects

Loima – November 18, 2025 (Public Communication and Public Relations)

The County Climate Change Fund Management Board has begun its routine assessment of projects implemented under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme.

During the site visits, the Board reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all climate initiatives meet required standards and deliver tangible benefits to communities.

In the latest field visit, the delegation toured Nakamane Village in Turkwel Ward, Loima Sub-County, where they reviewed progress on a project aimed at producing tree seedlings for indigenous fruit and fodder crops. Once complete, the facility is expected to boost household resilience and support livestock survival during drought periods.

The team also inspected a stable water supply system in Naperebei Village, Lodwar Township Ward, Turkana Central, which has enabled families to establish productive gardens. Residents are now cultivating vegetables such as kunde, murere, and groundnuts — improving household nutrition and generating income from surplus produce. One of the farmers noted that reliable access to water has enhanced food security and opened new livelihood opportunities for the community.

The Director for Climate Change, George Emase, emphasized that consistent project assessments are essential for long-term sustainability, particularly through the integration of renewable energy solutions that shield communities from climate-related shocks.

Board members expressed satisfaction with the progress and stressed that ongoing monitoring is key to maintaining compliance, strengthening accountability, and scaling up climate-smart interventions across Turkana.

Present during the visit were the Board Chairperson, Father Joseph Ekomwa, along with Benedict Mukoo (Director, Disaster Management), Eunice Majuma, William Emoru Ejore (Commissioner), and Paul Auru (Monitoring and Evaluation Officer).
