President Ruto inspects Fisheries Exhibition Display during Tobong’u Lore

The County’s Fisheries Exhibition, was among the selected displays inspected by President Ruto during the second day of the Tobong’u Lore, the 9th Edition of Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival in Lodwar.

The display had solar-powered tricycle mounted fridge with ice donated by Adili Hubs Organization. The Iced fridge was used to preserve fresh Nile perch and Tilapia fish. This is a green energy fish preservation technology.

The exhibition included fresh Mbuta, Nile Perch and its leather products, fried, smoked, dried and salted fish products, fish balls, fish sausage, fish samosas.

Speaking during the gracing of Tobong’u Lore on the second day, President Ruto applauded the County Government for supporting fisheries development, while encouraging fisherfolk community to maximally exploit Lake Turkana for socio-economic development to prevent fish from dying of old age.

National fisheries and aquaculture projects focus on boosting food security, jobs, and economic growth through sustainable fish farming, often targeting underserved regions like Kenya’s arid zones, using strategies like farmer training, improved technology and policy frameworks to integrate smallholders and promote blue economy with major support from World Bank, and national funds. 

The president was accompanied by Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, Julius Kavita (County Commissioner), and other dignitaries.

The County Fisheries team; Hon Peter Ikaru (Chief Officer Fisheries and Aquaculture), Bett John (County Fisheries Officer), Moses Njeru and Ole Kebo (Sub-county Fisheries Officers) and Philemon Enyang (Principal Administrator) were present in the exhibition.
