County Government finalizes commodity quantification workshop

The Department for Health and Sanitation has successfully completed a commodity quantification data validation workshop as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen planning, forecasting, and availability of essential health products and technologies.

Following a courtesy call with the Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr Gilchrist Lokoel, the workshop also followed a quantification planning meeting conducted in November, 2025.

Supported by Village Reach, these workshop validated health commodity data from 52 sampled health facilities, a key step in planning for essential medicines, laboratory supplies, and strategic program commodities.

Speaking during the workshop, the Deputy Director of Health Products  and Technologies, Paul Kare, emphasized the importance of accurate data in strengthening the health system.

“Reliable and validated data is the foundation of effective planning and service delivery. This exercise will enable the county government to make informed decisions, minimize stock-outs, and ensure that essential health commodities are available where and when they are needed,” he said.

“By bringing together stakeholders from health facilities and the communities, we are able to ensure that our data reflects the true needs on the ground. This is critical for improving access to essential health commodities,” Dr Brian Muyokani echoed Kare’s statement.

George Nzioka, the Village Reach Senior Supply Chain Manager, highlighted the collaborative nature of the workshop.

“This exercise demonstrates our commitment to strengthening the health system through data-driven planning, we are ensuring every facility from hospital to community health units has what it needs to serve the people,” he said.

Participants were County and Sub-County health management teams, and Village Reach representatives.
