The new year has begun with encouraging news from Turkana South.

The Medical Services team at Lokichar Sub-County Hospital closed 2025 on a high note after successfully performing their maiden Caesarean Section in the hospital’s newly established theatre.

On December 26, 2025, a healthy baby girl was delivered at 5:00 p.m., weighing 2.6 kilograms at birth. Both the mother, Sylvia Narot, and her newborn have since begun the new year in good health.

The successful procedure was made possible by a dedicated medical team comprising Dr. Rosealba Lokel, the Surgeon; Starlon Ekiru, the Assistant; Felisters Ongangi, the Midwife; and Simon Kabutiei, the Anaesthetist.

Speaking after the milestone achievement, the Medical Superintendent at Lokichar Sub-County Hospital, Mathew Bundotich, expressed pride in the team’s dedication and strong teamwork, noting that the success demonstrates the facility’s growing capacity to offer advanced maternal health services at the sub-county level.
