At least 60 Community Driven Development Committee (CDDC) officials have completed a two-day training by Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP) aimed at strengthening the implementation of the agripreneur model to enhance food production in Turkana.
The training focused on sensitizing CDDC members on the agripreneur approach, which seeks to equip farmers with modern agricultural technologies, provide extension services, and facilitate access to markets.
Speaking during the session, County Project Coordinator, Victor Lochee, emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the committees’ oversight role.
“The CDDCs are expected to oversee the performance and payment of agripreneurs at the ward level, serve as a link between the community and the county as trustees of community interests,” Lochee said.
He also urged committee members to mobilize young people in their respective communities to join Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) as a pathway to economic empowerment.
At the close of the training, CDDC officials signed contracts after being taken through and agreeing to the terms and conditions governing their engagement.
In attendance was Christine Ebei, the FSRP County Digital Agriculture Lead.
