Nachuchukait Village in Lokichoggio has been hit by two consecutive fire incidents within three days, resulting in widespread destruction of homes and household property and leaving dozens of families homeless and highly vulnerable.

In response, County Government through Directorate of Disaster and Risk Management, in collaboration with other stakeholders, swiftly intervened by distributing emergency food relief to the affected families. An estimated 50 households, comprising about 300 people, received maize, beans, and cooking oil to help alleviate food shortages as they begin rebuilding their lives.

While addressing the affected residents, the County Executive Committee Member for Disaster and Risk Management, Patrick Losike, urged villagers to construct their houses with adequate spacing to facilitate rescue operations during emergencies. He noted that proper spacing would also help prevent the rapid spread of fires in the future.

The County Government further assured the affected families of its commitment to resettlement efforts by providing land for relocation where they will have sufficient space to construct new homes. This initiative aims to reduce congestion in the village and minimize the risk of similar disasters occurring in the future.

Meanwhile, the Chief Officer for Administration and Disaster Management, Marian Nakaale, commended the local administration for their swift collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross in responding to the disaster. She praised their efforts as a clear demonstration of effective government representation and service delivery at the grassroots level.
