County government is considering a proposal in which Small Farm Cities organization is seeking land to expand access to affordable housing, establishment of commercial enterprises and promote utilization of natural resources through creation of agro-urban centers.
The proposal was presented at a meeting with Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus by the organization’s official in Lodwar.
The project proposes to invest up to USD five millions to build housing units in such a way that Intergrates growth of commercial activities, creates new livelihood pathways and expands utilization of the locally available natural resources for economic gain.
DG Erus described it as a well designed initiative with the potential to address long-standing challenges linked to underutilization of locally available natural resources.
The Deputy Governor commended the the organization for contacting the county as he highlighted the importance of proper legal and administrative procedures in land acquisition beginning with signing of a formal partnership framework.
Citing that the county had an approved ten year spatial plan making it easier to identify land for such projects, the DG emphasised the need for alignment of the initiative with government led frameworks such as Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP) and Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Program (KISIP).
