The Project technical animal health team has been trained to support the Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) vaccination campaign, by utilizing the innovative E-voucher system.
The system training aims to improve livestock health and productivity throughout Turkana County.
The two-day training, organized by the Food System Resilience Project (FSRP), focuses on enhancing veterinary service delivery through digital platforms.
It also aims to equip the technical team with the necessary skills for administering PPR vaccines to the targeted livestock population.
Dr. Benson Longor, the Director of Veterinary Services, underscored the importance of commitment among veterinary officers.
“This exercise requires you to engage directly with communities, visiting villages and kraals where livestock are located to fulfil your responsibilities,” Dr. Longor stated.
Victor Lochee, the County Project Coordinator for FSRP, assured the team of the necessary support throughout the vaccination campaign.
The FSRP E-voucher system is designed to facilitate service tracking and provide real-time data reporting, ensuring timely payments for services rendered.
Trained veterinarians and para-veterinarians will lead the PPR vaccination efforts, which are crucial for preventing outbreaks of PPR.
Additionally, the officers will be responsible for recording and reporting vaccination data through the E-voucher system, ensuring the integrity of the cold chain and vaccine quality throughout the campaign.
The training was facilitated by National Project Coordinator Unit team led by Dr. Geoffrey Gitau Mukora (FSRP National Animal Health Desk Officer).
It was also attended by Dr. Erenius Nakadio(Deputy Director of Veterinary Services), Josephine Emase(County Community Institutions Development Officer-FSRP), Caroline Asekon(County Project Agricultural Extension Officer-FSRP).
