Lodwar, 20th February, 2026 (Public Communication and Media Relations)

Robert Eseye, an Instructor with Lorugum Vocational Training Centre (LVTC), Loima Sub-county, grabbed a rare opportunity to showcase his innovation of an extension cable made of wood during the first Farmers Field Day at Ekalees Cultural Centre, Lodwar.

Eseye, who is also a member of Lorugum Savings and Cooperative Society, said the innovation is aimed at entrenching self reliance, and economic empowerment, stating that it is a desired goal to more than 2000 members.

With 12 years formerly at Don Bosco and currently six years experience at Lorugum VTC, the Instructor says, his drive has been to seamlessly transfer knowledge to the learners, who will in turn, use it to help themselves, as well as transform the larger community.

During the Farmers Field Day, he said, he is happy the wooden extension cable has got a lot of support from local community as it has gradually replaced the current plastic-made extension cable.

“I am proud that Lorugum and other neighbouring areas have embraced and supported the innovation of timber extension cable, that has offered an alternative cable, when the former blows off or is destroyed,” stated Eseye.

Further, the Instructor explained that the locally-made extension is durable and sustainable as it is made from locally available materials like timber, power wire, metallic sheets, and tuck nails. He confirmed, it charges more than 12 phones at one given time.

Costing Sh1200, he urged the trade fair participants to promote his local innovation, even after the event, by buying his products that are readily available in the market.

Apart from the timber cable, Lorugum Sacco also showcased other cultural products like traditional stool, and walking sticks for men. Members attributed the increased sales to the Governor Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai Napotikan after he visited their booth

Eseye was thankful to the County Government in collaboration with Kuza Jamii II Project for the opportunity for him and other participants across the county to showcase their products and success stories at the Field Day.

Alongside Lorugum Sacco, Eruko, Kalokol Lotiira, Atodukos Kaapei and Arid Frontiers Cooperative Societies were also present during the event.
