Boost for Cross-Border Peace as Stolen Livestock Returned to Owners

Loreng, March 19, 2026 (Governor’s Press Service) — Governor Dr. Jeremiah Lomorukai today presided over the handover of livestock recovered after being stolen by cattle rustlers and traced back to their rightful owners in Uganda.

The area Chief has been tasked with delivering the goats to the owners in the neighbouring country.Governor Lomorukai commended community elders for their critical role in leading the recovery process and called on leaders across all sectors to strengthen collaboration in advancing peace initiatives.

“We share a common ancestry. There is no justification for conflict among the Turkana, Karamojong, and Toposa communities, as we are united by language and traditions,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to sustained peacebuilding efforts.

He reiterated his administration’s focus on health, water, education, and peacebuilding, assuring residents of his commitment to implementing the County Government’s nine-point development agenda.

Governor Lomorukai revealed that he had engaged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on the need to prioritize the completion of ongoing projects.

He emphasized his administration’s readiness to work closely with the government of William Ruto to ensure Turkana benefits from national development programmes and services.

Dr. Lomorukai underscored the importance of continuous public engagement, noting that he had traversed all parts of the county, including international borders to champion the interests of wananchi.He attributed the current peaceful coexistence among pastoralist communities along the Kenya–Uganda border to joint efforts spearheaded by his administration,Ateker Peace Envoy John Munyes and Woman Representative Cecilia Ng’itit.

Munyes pledged continued support to the county administration, emphasizing that the recovery and return of stolen livestock are tangible dividends of sustained peacebuilding efforts.

The Governor was accompanied by County Executive Committee Members Patrick Losike (Public Service) and Faith Aletea (Lands), as well as Chief Officer for Trade Joseph Epuu.
