More than 30 technical staff from Turkana Urban Water and Sanitation Company (TUWASCO) and Turkana Rural Water and Sanitation Company (TURWASCO) have undergone specialized training on the use of borehole inspection cameras and butt fusion machines, strengthening the county’s capacity to maintain and manage critical water infrastructure.

The training equipped the technicians with practical skills to operate modern inspection and pipe-joining equipment used to detect faults in boreholes and ensure durable pipeline connections.

The sessions, facilitated by electro-mechanical technicians Benard Oching and Michael Odialo, combined both theoretical instruction and hands-on use of the equipment.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve internal operational efficiency within the two water utilities by minimizing downtime during repairs and reducing dependence on external technical support.

Trainees noted that the newly acquired skills will help shorten repair times, lower maintenance costs, and ultimately enhance the reliability of water services for residents across Turkana County.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the County Government to modernize water service delivery systems and strengthen the long-term sustainability of water infrastructure management.
