Kakuma Municipality engages residents on resource mobilization and development projects

Kakuma Municipality, in partnership with the Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK), held a public forum on resource mobilization and project implementation.

The forum brought together members of both the host and refugee communities, providing an opportunity for residents to share views and contribute to discussions on key priority development projects within the municipality.

Speaking during the meeting, Municipal Manager Peter Emuria, alongside the municipal board members outlined the municipality’s framework of operations and highlighted ongoing and upcoming development initiatives under the Kenya Urban Support Programme II (KUSP II), funded by the World Bank.

He noted that the programme aims to improve the livelihoods of residents through enhanced road accessibility, installation of street lighting, and improved solid waste management system,1.8km road from Department of refugee services(DRS) to Sub-County hospital will be tarmacked and another 1.8km road from Stabex petro station heading to Rajab Police station to be tarmacked.

RCK addressed concerns raised by members of the refugee community regarding land ownership.

Deputy Municipal Manager Halima Duba emphasized that project benefits will be equitably shared between the host and refugee communities

Mr.Ekai and Farah who are officials of the host and refugees respectively expressed their appreciation to the Turkana County Government and the World Bank for their continued support in improving livelihoods and fostering inclusive development within Kakuma Municipality.
