The County Government with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) held a review meeting on the Turkana County Age and Disability Coordination Forum to strengthen inclusive planning and service delivery.
With the support from the Turkana Pastoralist Development Organization, (TUPADO) the meeting aimed to promote inclusive planning by improving service accessibility, enhancing awareness on disability inclusion and strengthening data systems.
The meeting also focused on strengthening programmes and improving data collection for effective service delivery.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Officer for Resource Mobilization, Partnerships and Donor Coordination, JaneroseTioko, urged stakeholders to align their interventions within specific clusters to avoid duplication of efforts.
“Let us work together in monitoring and evaluation of programmes to improve data and ensure that our interventions benefit the Turkana community,” she said.
She further encouraged the team to strengthen feedback mechanisms through regular monitoring reports, noting that this will enhance accountability and improve programme outcomes.
She noted that coordination remains a key priority under the County Government’s nine-point agenda, adding that her department is committed to strengthening collaboration among stakeholders.
Turkana County NCPWD Coordinator, Benson Ebei, emphasized the need to mainstream persons with disabilities in programmes implemented by stakeholders and partners.
Abel Lotot from TUPADO who is implementing Phase II of the Turkana Inclusive Livelihood Resilience Project (TILRP), highlighted the importance of strengthening inclusive livelihood programmes to support vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities.
Also, Chairperson and Kalokol leader for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD), Mary Ataba, appreciated TUPADO for supporting on capacity building for persons with disabilities in Kalokol and Kang’atotha wards.
She called on other stakeholders to extend support to other sub-counties, noting that many persons with disabilities across Turkana still require assistance and inclusion in development programmes.
Moving forward, there was need to improve and provide up-to-date data to support planning, budgeting and resource mobilization for persons with disabilities.
Present were attendees from the Directorate of Social Protection led by Alex Marangachi, Gender and Youth Affairs led by Linus Ekidor and Economic Planning.
Also present were representatives from International Rescue Committee and Turkana Development Trust.
