Residents of Sapcone area, Kanamkemer Ward are set to benefit from a new road after County Government handed over the site to a contractor to kick off the project.

The area suffered from the recent heavy rains that swept off the road network causing damages to property in a large scale.

Chief Officer for Roads, Engineer Mark Achilla handed over the certificate to the contractor accompanied by area’s Member of County Assembly Hon. James Ikeny.

“The contract is worth ksh 18 Million and we expect the contractor to kick off the process soonest possible bearing in mind that residents of this area have no road network completely after the heavy rains,” Chief officer said.

During the site handover, Ejore Lomodo, a community members raised concerns over delay of the project, calling upon the County Government and office of the area MCA to speed up the process.

“The very fact that the County has arrived here with speed shows that the Government listens and values it’s people. We however demand that the contractor speeds up the construction,” he said.

According to the contract document, the new resulting road will run from Namariat to Sapcone area, falling under the jurisdiction of the County Government.

A recent survey conducted by county engineers from the directorate of Roads indicated that the area has loose Sandy soil that could easily be washed away by raging floods.

“One of the challenges we noted in this area is rapid development and the erection of walling in all corners. When water has nowhere to go, it digs trenches that have now become very common,” Engineer Moru said.
