The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP) has inducted 20 Water Governance Interns to strengthen their capacity in the water sector and promote sustainable water resource management.
The induction programme prepares the interns for placement within water service institutions, where they will gain hands-on experience in water policy implementation, resource management, stakeholder engagement, and institutional governance.
Speaking during the event, County Executive Committee Member for Water Services, Willy Justus Lopeyok, emphasized the importance of effective water governance in ensuring equitable access to water, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic development.
“Undertake your duties with professionalism, curiosity, and a strong commitment to public service,” Lopeyok urged the interns.
The cohort comprises 15 male and five female interns. During the induction, they were introduced to ongoing water sector programmes, workplace policies, and expectations for the internship period.
The interns will work closely with water service providers and other sector stakeholders, to enhance their understanding of water governance, institutional operations, and service delivery.
The programme aims to nurture the next generation of water governance professionals through practical experience, technical expertise, mentorship, and exposure to real-world water management challenges.
