Loturerei, July 25, 2026 (Governor’s Press Service) – Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to delivering a sustainable solution to the persistent water shortages affecting Loturerei and Napetao in Kanamkemer Ward.
Speaking during an empowerment programme for the Atoting’as Kaapei Women Group in Loturerei, the Governor announced that the Department of Climate Change will explore funding options to facilitate the extension of piped water to the two areas after previous attempts to drill boreholes proved unsuccessful due to high salinity levels.
Governor Lomorukai asked Kanamkemer Ward MCA James Ikeny to work closely with technical officers from the relevant departments to ensure adequate resources are allocated towards implementing the proposed water supply project.
The Governor also highlighted the progress made in promoting cross-border peace since he assumed office in 2022, noting that improved security has enhanced the livelihoods of pastoralist living along the borders.
He expressed support towards ongoing disarmament exercise in Turkana South and urged security agencies to uphold the rule of law and respect the rights and dignity of women during the operation.
Governor Lomorukai said his administration remains focused on implementing programmes that directly improve the lives of residents, particularly in the areas of peace building, livestock development, food security and water access. He maintained that these priorities would continue to guide his leadership despite political distractions.
He cited ongoing investments in strategic water infrastructure, including the Water projects in Kalemng’orok, to support both human consumption and livestock production in areas with large pastoral populations as a demonstration to commitment to livelihood sectors in banditry prone areas.
He dismissed criticism from political detractors, stating that his administration would remain focused on service delivery rather than political rhetoric.County Chief Officers present included Robert Lotaruk (Finance) and Dominic Emase (Referral Services).
The Governor was accompanied by Kang’atotha MCA Mathew Alany, Kanamkemer MCA James Ikeny, Nominated MCA Linet Abok and former Turkana Central MP John Lodepe.
