The County Government through the Department of Health, has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ambulex Solutions to strengthen emergency medical care, referral services and ambulance coordination in Turkana.
The partnership builds on earlier engagement on the integration of technology-enabled emergency response into the county’s public health system.
Signed on behalf of the County Government by the Deputy Governor, Dr. John Erus, he said the partnership will be particularly helpful to hard-to-reach populations in remote and underserved areas.
“Proper referral systems must be put in place to ensure ease in medical records and transfers during medical evacuations,” Dr. Erus said.
Ambulex Solutions CEO Judith Oketch said the organisation has developed systems to support emergency and referral services, reaching more households across the country.
“With this reach, Turkana becomes our ninth MoU partnership, and we are committed to supporting the county in building a stronger emergency referral system,” said Oketch.
She added that Ambulex will support the county with paramedics, drivers and nurses to enhance the efficiency and safety of emergency transfers.
The partnership will also support digital ambulance mapping and dispatch, allowing health authorities to identify available ambulances and coordinate emergency response more effectively.
Boniface Awuor, Ambulex Partnership and Scaling Lead noted that the county is among those significantly affected by snakebite cases, making timely emergency response and referral systems critical in saving lives.
The partnership will further support capacity building for emergency medical teams, including Basic and Advanced Life Support training, to improve the handling and response to emergencies.
The MoU is expected to strengthen coordination between communities, health facilities and emergency responders while improving access to timely and reliable emergency care across the county.
Present were Dr. David Moru, Director Health Products and Technology, Mike Aupe, Deputy Director for Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, Kephas Achiro, County Coordinator for Emergency and Referral Services, and Damaris Opilo, Partnerships and Networking Coordinator (Medical Services).
