The County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries, Dr Anthony Apalia met with representatives from the University of Minnesota and Kenya Women Veterinary Association (KWVA) as they embarked on their capacity-building training.

The two institutions will be conducting a two-day training for veterinary officers on innovations in the areas of rabies and humane dog population control.

CECM Apalia highlighted the importance of refresher training as it ensured new knowledge was attained and utilized.

He further assured them of their Department’s support in current training and any other in the near future.

The Chief Officer for Livestock Development, Dr Ezekiel Etelej pointed out that rabies control was indeed a government concern, as 990 dog bites had been reported since the beginning of the year.

Dr Apalia suggested the partners visit the veterinary laboratories to advise on addressing the gaps to enhance the services.

The Executive Member of the KWVA, Marylyn Karani, appreciated the opportunity to work with the Department, as they hoped to make a difference in the livestock sector.

Also present was Chairperson, KWVA Dr Anima Sirma. Others were Moumita Das, Prof Melinda, Wilkins, and Dr. Maria Sol Perez, all from the University of Minnesota.
