The incoming Chief Officer for Urban Areas and Municipalities, Marian Lotieng, has asserted that the future of Turkana County lies with the urban areas.
“The urban areas are service-oriented economies, with large and small scale businesses being the contributors to urban development. In so doing, urban development economies are the main drivers of economic prosperity,” she said.
At the same time, CCO Lotieng added that the County Government and World Bank support through the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP) provide many investment opportunities to enhance businesses in Turkana.” CCO affirmed.
In bringing the services closer to the people, the CCO said she is happy Turkana has Lodwar and Kakuma Municipalities. The Municipalities will provide improved social amenities that attract investments for posterity.
She said this while giving remarks after the brief ceremony when she took over the office from Chief Cathra Abdi.
This comes a day after Chief Abdi took over the Department of Public Works.
Recognizing the good work she had done for the last six months in the Department, the outgoing Chief challenged her colleague to keep pace or do better for the benefit of residents living in Lodwar Municipality.
She advised Chief Lotieng to focus on teamwork and results. CCO told her to work with partners to contribute towards the realization of the Governor’s Nine-Point Agenda.
On his part, the County Executive for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Areas, Peter Akono, graced the handover between the two Chief Officers.
He welcomed the incoming Chief while wishing well the outgoing one. CECM promised them his unwavering support to ensure they deliver the Governor’s Agenda on transforming Turkana County.
The Chief Officer for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing, Leah Losiru, welcomed the new Chief Officer confirming that is going to bond easily with her. She thanked the outgoing Chief Abdi saying she enjoyed working with her for the last six months.
Other officers present included Jonathan Ekai(Director, Administration) Gabriel Kowot (Principal Administrator), Ekaran James (Accountant) and Esekon Stanley (Administrator Municipality) were present during the ceremony.
