Residents of Kanamkemer can now continue to enjoy routine water supply, after two weeks of interruption occasioned by the breakdown of the electricity supply system at Borehole 9 which serves about 40,000 clients.

The County Department of Water Services has since fixed the breakdown at a cost of Ksh 800,000.

The pumping of water to major storage and distribution tanks at Kanamkemer slaughter, SAPCONE area, and Kambi Mpya has since been resumed, and residents have confirmed receipt of water to their taps.

The Chief Officer for Water Services, David Maraka, said the staff supporting in technical, operation, and maintenance works are continuing with major repairs of the supply systems to guarantee a steady supply of water to the residents of Lodwar Municipality.

He added that his staff as well as a multi-sectoral team are working round the clock to protect most of the boreholes located along River Turkwell from being swept away by El Nino rains.

“We are already working with a multi-sectoral team to protect the boreholes facing imminent threat of collapse due to River Turkwell bursting its banks. Borehole 9 is among the critical water infrastructure earmarked for such a plan.” Said Chief Maraka.
