HOUSING OFFICIALS CONCLUDE JOINT MAPPING OF LOCATIONS EARMARKED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS IN TURKANA

Housing officials from both the National and County Governments have concluded a joint mapping of Nakwei in Lodwar, Kakuma TMC, and Lokichoggio UN area, three locations earmarked for building 100,000 units under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) in Turkana.
The three locations have set aside 20 hectares of land for the construction of housing units, university hostels, and social amenities.
The mapping activity included land survey works through aerial photography and coordinate-taking as part of the data collection to inform the eventual site layout.
In addition to this, the team assessed the compliance status with respect to the approved development plans, land ownership title deeds, survey maps, and land use master plans, all of which are legal requirements before approval of the project.
The exercise is the last step before the launch of the project through a ground-breaking ceremony in which top County and National Government officials are expected to grace the occasion.
The affordable housing project is a National Government initiative aimed at addressing the huge deficit of housing units faced by Kenyans due to the prohibitive costs associated with house ownership.
The Senior Director for Housing Richard Tutah, members of the mapping team from the State Department of Housing, Nelson Oyaro (Architect), and Joseph Oduhullah (Housing officer, Turkana County) were present during the exercise.
The County team included Jonathan Ekai (Director of Administration), Exodus Amodoi (Housing Officer), and Benard Elipan (Surveyor).
