The winning teams of the recently concluded County Peace Competitions for the Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen Cup will be heading to Kapenguria, West Pokot County to face off against winning teams from the other three counties.
The Inter-county Peace games are scheduled to commence on December 17, 2023, with the winning teams expected to be rewarded, as well as serving as Peace ambassadors in the volatile region.
The Peace Inter-county Competition will have participants drawn from the neighboring Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and West Pokot Counties.
This is aimed at encouraging peaceful co-existence among the warring communities in the North Rift Region.
In addition to this, the county has unveiled a planning committee to oversee preparations for the competition, following the just-concluded games.
The County Executive for Education Sports and Social Protection, Leah Audan said that the move was aimed at winning the inaugural tournament to set the pace for more wins in the subsequent years.
She noted the OKM preliminary and qualifying rounds had already attracted a display of skills, teamwork, and professional dedication that should be emulated by the men and women preparing for the competitions.
Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training, John Korikel reiterated the Department’s commitment to supporting sporting talents.
James Nateleng, Director of Sports, and Jackson Nakusa, Deputy Director of Sports were present during the planning meeting.
