County Chief Officer for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Triza Amoni held a meeting with the PS for Mining Elijah Mwangi in Nairobi.
The two exchanged views on the improvement of the mining sector in Turkana following the discovery of Coitan, an essential product for the manufacture of mobile phones.
Accompanied by the Director of Liaison Services Joel Mwita, Chief Officer Triza Amoni requested for Governments’ support especially on compliance enforcement since mining was a shared function that called for collaborative efforts.
On his part, the PS for Mining Elijah Mwangi emphasised the need for compliance with the provisions of the Mining Act of 2016 as it provides a comprehensive guideline for the role of each sector player.
This comes at a time when a team of geologists from the state Department of Mining has already been dispatched to Turkana to commence a 21-day minerals exploration exercise to produce a detailed geological mapping report for use by the County and National Governments.
PS confirmed that Turkana was a significant source of goods and precious stones of huge economic value to the Country.
