Revival of the Peace Actors Secretariat, a steering committee under the Turkana County Peace Actos Forum (TUPAF), is expected to boost peace dialogue efforts in Turkana, the Director for Peace Building and Conflict Management, Titus Lokorikeju, has said.
The secretariat aims to amplify the impact of peace-building initiatives and create a platform through which dialogue can be used as a tool for resolving conflicts between communities.
The Director was speaking at a one day Peace Actors Forum meeting sponsored by LPI consortium partners to deliberate on progress made by the County since the last TUPAF meeting.
Emerging conflicts, actors interventions, effectiveness of response strategies and suggestions for improvement were also discussed as part of the meetings’ agenda.
The Director for Peace Building and Conflict Management, Titus Lokorikeju, urged peace actors to devise practical solutions and corrective measures to alleviate the insecurity in the county’s borders.
He further emphasized the unique nature of conflicts in different parts of Turkana and called for home-grown solutions that uphold peace.
Executive Director of the Agency for Cross-Border Pastoralist Development (APaD), Sam Kimeli, noted the revival of the secretariat should be seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the coordination and effectiveness of peacebuilding efforts in the region.
