A joint meeting organized by the County Directorate for Environment and Natural Resource and supported by SAPCONE and PLAN International, has resolved to push for inclusion of Gender concerns by all players implementing Climate change interventions in Turkana moving forward.

Director for Climate Change, George Emase, explained that move would ensure equal benefits for men and women by including their respective needs in the process.

Director Emase further urged sector players to orient themselves with the provisions of the Turkana County Climate Change Act of 2021 and the draft Climate- proofing services policy to inform choice of the best gender based approaches for maximizing benefits to men and women alike.

While emphasizing the importance of understanding the concept of carbon credits as the key ingredient in shaping climate proofing interventions, director Emase called upon sector players to embrace a process of documentation that includes gender disagregated data in their reporting.

Deputy Director for Natural Resources, Pauline Ngoli, added that teamwork was key in promoting inclusion of gender concerns in climate proofing interventions.

While acknowledging that Turkana had experienced the negative impact of climate change in the recent past, Technical Advisor at SAPCONE, Joseph Imuton, urged sector players to prioritize environmental conservation.

Present during the one day workshop was Richard Guya (Forest Service); Joan Kibet (researcher from KEFRI); Thomas Kiyonga (Deputy Director for Climate Change); Nadio Clement (Director for Natural Resources); Mbotela William (PED-ELA Section); and Ronnie Odongo (Senior Economist).
