The County Government and the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) have launched a livestock vaccination campaign targeting over 170,000 livestock. The 14-day drive will cover parts of Lokichoggio, Loima, and Turkana North Sub-Counties.

While flagging off the Veterinary team, Chief Officer for Livestock Development Dr Ezekiel Etelej appreciated FCDC for the support, as he called for enhanced collaboration to achieve the desired target.

“To implement this campaign, the Department of Livestock Development has deployed four main teams, each comprising of Veterinary, Animal Health, Laboratory, and Data Recording Officers to provide support during the exercise,” said the CCO.

Chief Etelej also divulged that the County Government has dispensed veterinary vaccines and supplied drugs at a cost of Ksh 5 million for use during the campaign.

FCDC’s ASAL Coordinator, the Livestock Sector Strengthening (LSS) II Program, Dr Elim Limlim said vaccination activity including logistical and facilitation support is implemented under the LSS II program at a cost of Ksh 4.5 million with support of Swiss Development Corporation.

“This is one of the biggest activities that FCDC has supported in its program, and with more collaborations and strategy, there will be more continued support for other exercises going forward,” he said.

An advance team has also been on the ground conducting a week-long mobilization campaign that began in early July 2024 ahead of the exercise to sensitize the community to the campaign.
