In a collaborative effort, Turkana County Government and USAID Nawiri conducted a three-day workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of county directors in resource mobilization strategies for sustainable development.

Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus, who graced the occasion, expressed gratitude for the partnership and acknowledged USAID Nawiri’s commitment in supporting key sectors such as agriculture, water resource management, livelihoods, and environmental conservation.

“We are exploring innovative ways to address existing gaps, advance county revenue streams, and encourage investments, including increasing production and transforming Vocational Training Institutes (TVETs) into centers of production,” said Dr. Erus.

The workshop sought to develop a comprehensive policy framework to guide departments in allocating resources to specific programs and mobilize partners’ contributions.

Director for Resource Mobilization, Raphael Logum, highlighted the critical role of resource mobilization in advancing sustainable development and resilience-building efforts in Turkana County. He stressed the importance of mapping out and linking partners with responsible county directorates to avoid duplication of projects.

USAID Nawiri Data and System Strengthening Advisor Joseph Emathe affirmed the program’s collaborative approach dedicated to maximizing the utilization of resources in the county departments. He emphasized the program’s goal to leverage resources and expertise to address pressing challenges facing the region and unlock its potential for long-term prosperity.

The workshop brought together directors from various departments, including education, climate change, litigation matters, information and communication technology, health, resource mobilization, sports, and public service and administration, among others.
