COUNTY AND USAID JOIN TO REVIEW ONGOING LMS AND STAWI PROJECTS

A joint commitment between county government and USAID mission team is to conduct a monitoring and evaluation exercise to determine the progress of Livestock Market Systems (LMS) and STAWI projects across Turkana County.

Paying a courtesy call to the County Secretary, Peter Eripete, the USAID mission team, requested the CS to facilitate technical assistance for a comprehensive assessment of water security and pastoralist resilience programs implemented in the region.

The USAID LMS project aims to promote vibrant markets for pastoralists by contributing to inclusive, resilient, and competitive markets, while the STAWI project focuses on increasing the sustainability of water services delivery.

CS Eripete reiterated the county government willingness to support strategic partnerships and called for a collective collaborative approach in the implementation of the project.

He added that the priority of the programmes is meant to foster development and realise the sustainability of the Turkana community.

“As the county government, we are committed to supporting responsible co-investment from our partners, whose priority is the local community. The county will co-operate with USAID mission team to achieve its development objective,” CS Eripete stated.

CS Eripete also stressed the need to rationalize the available resources for successful implementation of development projects in the water sector to ensure adequate water supply to the turkana community.

The County Executive Committee Member for Water Services, Losike Lokaimoe outlined that rehabilitation of water systems including broken water pumps and boreholes as a priority which necessitates engagement with partners in order to improve water supply and facilitate emergency response to water challenges.

Ernest Njoroge from USAID added that it is crucial for projects to be evaluated to promote the effectiveness and utilization of technical experts from the department to monitor projects for successful implementation of water development projects.

The USAID delegation also included Carnelitta Franascois, Fanuel odhiambo, and Wilkister Magangi. They were accompanied by the LMS team Humfrey Dianga and Simon Muli.

The County Government officials present included Director, Governor’s Security and Protocol, Peter lomauke, Assistant Director, Water Services, George Aremon, and John Lokitoe, Officer at the Directorate of Trade.
