Every year, #InternationalYouthDay celebrates the potential and challenges of young people around the world.
This year’s theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” focusses on the power of digital transformation in sustainable economies, putting the youth at the centre of the transformation.
The County Government, in collaboration with Friends of Lake Turkana (FoLT), today held a youth forum, drawing young people from across the county for the Youth to voice their opinions on availability and access to digital opportunities and sustainable development in Turkana.
Over the last decade, young people have made lasting changes and impacted economies across Africa.
In Turkana, we shine the light on young people like Emmanuel Loroo who continue to use their vocational skills to make a living and create more opportunities for other young people.
In efforts to create more opportunities for young people and fill the access gaps, the county government is constructing a youth ICT hub in Lodwar Township ward.
Some of the other partners creating opportunities for young people in Turkana include Start Up Lions, Ujuzi Mashinani by USAID Nawiri, and Vijana in KilimoBiz by UNWFP.
“Such efforts remind us of the power of investing in the next generation. When we empower youth, especially through technology, we set up entire communities in Turkana to thrive,” said Ekidor Linus Namoe, Deputy Director, Directorate of Youth Affairs.
