Lodwar – 15th August, 2024 (Public Communication and Media Relations)
The County Department of Health and Sanitation aims to enhance healthcare services in its eleven sub-county hospitals, allowing Lodwar County Referral Hospital (LCRH) to focus on specialized healthcare services.
Lodwar Referral, the only Level Four facility in the county, has been inundated with referrals from lower-level facilities. This has increased its workload as it provides services that would be better managed at health facilities which are closer to patients’ homes.
During his first meeting with the hospital’s department heads, County Executive for Health and Sanitation James Wangiros emphasized the importance of building relationships with the public to gain their trust.
“The focus on sub-county hospitals is intended to relieve the workload at LCRH,” he said.
He also revealed that the department would work towards operationalizing the over 60 completed health facilities, which would significantly boost primary healthcare provision at the community level.
Accompanied by the Chief Officer of Preventive and Promotive Health, Cathra Abdi, CEC Wangiros identified gaps facing the hospital and assured department heads of an open-door policy in addressing some of the gaps.
Also in attendance were the Director of Public Health – Alfred Emanman, the CEO/Director of LCRH – Dr Esekon Epem, and the Deputy Director of Partnerships (Health), Nancy Kinyonge.
