Kakimat, August 19, 2024 (Governor’s Press Service)– Governor Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai wedded Sylvia in a Turkana traditional ceremony that united leaders and guests from across the Ateker communities of Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan, alongside representatives from the North Rift region and professionals from various sectors.
The wedding, held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, served as a platform for leaders to reaffirm their commitment to unity, emphasizing its importance for the well-being and economic prosperity of the region.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, representing the Council of Governors (CoG), underscored Governor Lomorukai’s pivotal role in maintaining the dynamism of the Northern Region Economic Bloc (NOREB) and his integral position within the CoG.
He praised the strong ties between the people of Uasin Gishu and Turkana, urging continued collaboration among Turkana leaders.
Addressing the issue of regional peace, Governor Bii highlighted the shared identity of the Ateker communities as a foundation for lasting peace and prosperity. “Leaders from Ateker communities must work together to realize this vision,” he stated. He also endorsed President William Ruto’s vision of forming a broad-based government that reflects the collective aspirations of all Kenyans.
Speakers at the event lauded Governor Lomorukai as a formidable leader capable of rallying others toward a common goal. Deputy Governor John Erus expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, stating that the county is on the right path.
Turkana Women Representative Hon. Cecil Ishuu extended her congratulations to the newlyweds and encouraged other leaders to follow their example. Area MP Hon. Emathe Namuar, a relative of the bride, expressed his joy and best wishes for the couple.
Former Cabinet Secretary John Munyes emphasized the necessity for the people of Turkana to support the current leadership for their collective benefit.
The ceremony, marked by traditional attire, dancing, and feasting, attracted visitors from far and wide. The celebrations continued into the night and extended into Sunday as guests began their journeys home.
The event saw large delegations from the North Rift, Ateker communities, President Ruto’s representative, the Turkana County Executive, and the County Assembly in attendance.
