COUNTY RECLAIMS NAWOIYAREGAE BRIDGE THREE KMS ROAD STRETCH FROM INVASIVE SPECIES

The three-kilometre stretch of road on the Nawoiyaregae bridge in Kaputir Ward, Turkana South, has been reclaimed from the invasive Prosopis juliflora, restoring its accessibility for public transportation and essential services.

A team from the County Department of Roads, led by its Chief Officer for Roads and Transport, Engineer Mark Achilla, inspected the completed works and approved the contractor’s execution of the project.

“The vital road, which connects Kaputir to Katilu, had been rendered impassable by the spread of Prosopis juliflora, severely disrupting transportation and access for local residents,” he said.

Additionally, sections of the road had been washed away by rains and floodwaters, further complicating travel in the area.

Ward Administrator for Kaputir Ward, Cosmas Kibele, noted that residents had previously been forced to use longer alternative routes to access essential goods and services, leading to increased costs and travel time.

Chief Officer Achilla reassured residents that the road would continue to receive routine maintenance to prevent the recurrence of Prosopis juliflora, which remains a persistent problem in the region.

The contractor was also responsible for gravelling and compacting as part of the rehabilitation works.
