The formerly the Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr Gilchrist Lokoel, has officially assumed the role of Chief Officer for the Department of Livestock Development. He takes over the position from Dr Ezekiel Etelej who has transitioned to the Department of Medical Services in the same capacity.
In a brief ceremony held at the department headquarters, Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a presided over the handover. During the event, Dr Lokoel was presented with key documents and files pertinent to his new role.
DCS Nyang’a emphasized that these transfers are routine and aimed at enhancing service delivery by leveraging the diverse skills and experiences of senior executives within the county government. He encouraged the department staff to collaborate with the incoming Chief Officer to foster growth and collective effort in serving the residents of Turkana.
The outgoing Chief Officer, Dr Etelej, advised his successor to prioritize projects related to the pending bills, particularly those that will aid in restocking livestock for residents. He also assured Dr Lokoel of his availability for consultations when necessary.
Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, Dr Lokoel reiterated his readiness to tackle the challenges of leading and managing the crucial sector. He committed to working closely with his team to advance Governor Lomorukai’s nine-point agenda.
Also present at the handover ceremony were Dr. Anthony Apalia, CECM for Agriculture, Livestock Development, and Fisheries; Benson Long’or, Director of Veterinary Services; Josephine Emase, Deputy Director of Livestock Production; and other county officials.
