In preparation for the upcoming Lokiriama Festival and Mashujaa Day celebrations, the Turkana County Government is conducting a comprehensive assessment of water access and supply in Loima Sub-County.
Led by the County Executive for Water Services, Patrick Losike Lokaimoe, the assessment aims to ensure adequate water infrastructure and resources are in place to meet the expected surge in demand from both local residents and visitors.
Working closely with local water user associations, the technical team has evaluated existing water supply stations and identified critical areas requiring immediate attention. The assessment revealed a need for repairs, increased public awareness on water conservation, and enhanced storage capacity.
“The information gathered will guide us in developing tailored solutions to improve water access not only for the upcoming events but also for the long-term benefit of the community,” stated Lokaimoe.
The team visited some water supply stations, including Kalemnyang, Lokotor Borehole, Kolelewi, and Lorengkippi, to assess their current state and identify areas for improvement.
CECM Lokaimoe directed that repair work on these stations commence immediately to ensure full functionality before the events.
Accompanied by Engineer Jackson Arigan, the Deputy Director for Water Services, Lokaimoe emphasized the need for a swift and coordinated response to address the water challenges.
The assessment data will also inform the water trucking strategy to be implemented during the festivities to supplement the existing water supply.
To further enhance water security, the sub-county water team has been instructed to form a rapid response unit to address any emergencies that may arise during the event’s period.
