Twenty-seven Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) ward and six sub-county ECDE education officers in Turkana County have undergone intensive training to align early childhood education with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The training, supported by EIDU, focused on the “Tayari” approach, which emphasizes foundational math and numeracy skills in early learning settings. The aim is to equip educators with the skills to provide interactive and effective mathematics instruction.
This initiative is part of Turkana’s broader goal to transform early childhood education through CBC-aligned methodologies. Previously, the same educators received training on IT-enabled content delivery.
By building the capacity of education officers to apply digital and hands-on techniques, the county aims to streamline young learners’ transition from ECDE to primary and secondary education.
Mark Erot, Sub-County Education Officer for Turkana Central, urged the participants to share their newly acquired knowledge with fellow educators to ensure widespread impact.
With over 100,000 children enrolled in ECDE centers across the county, Turkana is committed to providing quality early childhood education that sets a strong foundation for future learning.
