Katilu, November 27, 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)

The Turkana County Government, in collaboration with Practical Action, has inspected newly installed solar technology systems to power water systems in Kanamkemer and Katilu Wards. This initiative is part of the county’s efforts to transition to green energy solutions.

The Director for Energy and Petroleum Production, Eng. Jackson Lojore, stated that the systems include advanced remote monitoring capabilities and portable power banks for energy storage, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.

A joint team of technical officers from the County Government and Practical Action, led by Project Engineer George Kimutai, inspected the projects over two days and expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s work.

Eng. Lojore emphasized the department’s commitment to leveraging partnerships to accelerate the adoption of green energy. “This project is a significant step towards achieving the goal of providing clean and reliable energy for both domestic and productive use, as envisioned in the governor’s Nine Point Agenda of Development,” he said.

The solarization of the water supply systems in Katilu and Lolupe has transformed the lives of local residents by providing consistent and reliable water supply for household use and small-scale agricultural activities.

“The project has given us hope. We now have regular energy and consistent water supply for household use and small-scale agricultural activities,” said Peter Ajore, a resident of Lolupe.

The inspection team included Geoffrey Eregae (Deputy Director for Energy and Petroleum Production), Phyllis Epungure (Practical Action Community Officer), and Ronald Karebur (Senior Energy Officer).
