Kibish December 9, 2024 (Governor’s Press Service)_ — Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai today toured Kibish Sub-County where he launched projects and spearheaded the ongoing county emergency relief programme.
Speaking after commissioning the Kibish Health Centre, Governor Lomorukai reaffirmed his resolve to spread development programmes across the county even in the most remote areas.
“My focus is on ensuring no part of Turkana is left behind,” Governor Lomorukai said
Additionally, the Governor oversaw relief food distribution exercises in several centres across Kibish. He emphasized that while the initiative provides short-term cushioning against food shortages, his administration’s long-term strategy focuses on scaling up agricultural production to address food insecurity sustainably.
Women Representative Cecil Ng’itit praised the construction of the Kibish Health Centre, describing it as a vital lifeline for residents far from the county headquarters. She lauded the Governor’s efforts to prioritize healthcare and urged residents to support leaders committed to improving their welfare.
County Assembly Speaker Christopher Nakuleu commended the Governor’s dedication to fostering unity and peace among Turkana, Toposa, and Nyang’atom communities.
Former Cabinet Secretary John Munyes echoed these sentiments, lauding the unity among Turkana leaders and pledging his full support for the Governor’s leadership.
Governor Lomorukai also highlighted the progress made during his recent visit to Ethiopia, where he successfully negotiated for free trade across the border. This breakthrough is expected to bolster economic activities and enhance livelihoods for border communities.
The Governor emphasized the importance of mutual trust and collaboration between the two regions reflecting on an act of goodwill by Ethiopian authorities in the release of a young boy from Kokuro previously detained in Jinka.
“To meaningfully engage with neighbouring nations, our residents must understand and embrace the unity of purpose,” he said.
Kibish MCA Simon Nawoyakope was among a host of MCAs accompanying the Governor.
