CECM WANGIROS TO ISRAEL GRADUATES: YOU HAVE A ROLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO FOOD SECURITY IN TURKANA

The County Executive for the Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries, James Wangiros, has expressed his commitment to support best practices and modern technology in stimulating agricultural production to enhance food security in the County,

The CECM was speaking during a meeting with the 16 Arava International Center for Agricultural Training (AICAT) graduates who were nominated by the Department of Agriculture and Land Reclamation to pursue Diploma in advanced agriculture studies in Israel.

The graduates shared their experiences and discussed ways of enhancing production through domesticating sophisticated technologies and capacity building in smallholder farmers to embrace modern technologies as practiced in Israel.

The County Executive also guided the graduates to make a structured presentation on the lessons learned while in Israel and how best it can be utilized by farmers in Turkana. “As young generation of Turkana, you have a role to contribute to the food and nutrition security in Turkana.

He said, the young graduates will have a session during the partners meeting with the Department to share best experiences and majorly lessons that can upscale agricultural production in the county.

Further, CEC added that the team may get an opportunity to meet the Governor and report best practices required to achieve his agenda on food security.

The graduates have since been working with the County Government, Development partners and a number of them have been working with the community especially in Natoot FGCK farm.
Present at the meeting were Marian Lotieng, Chief Officer (Agriculture and Land Reclamation), Aaron Nanok, (Director Agriculture), Jackson Ewat, (Ag.Assistant Director Irrigation and Land Reclamation) and Peter Chegem Tioko (Principal Administrative Services) among others.
