County Director for Veterinary Services Dr. Benson Longor on Saturday led a team from the department in a spot-check over the ongoing targeted vaccination and treatment of livestock in the County.

The team which included representatives from Frontier Counties Development Council(FCDC) visited Kalemngorok and Lotubai areas in Turkana South and Turkana East Sub- Counties respectively.

The 12-days activity that will cover Turkana South, Turkana East and Turkana West Sub-Counties is being undertaken jointly by the department of Veterinary Services and FCDC

In his remarks, Director Long’or said the directorate had prioritized hotspot and key migratory areas where a huge number of animals are situated currently due to drought to ensure that the targeted livestock number for treatment is achieved.

He stated that the County Government had strategic plan to decentralize more essential drug supplies which includes cold chain facilities in Sub-Counties to enhance early preparedness and timely response to emergency livestock diseases.

Dr. Long’or said the directorate had provided vaccines worth Ksh.3.5 million towards the disease control intervention targeting 90,000 goats and sheep.

Veterinary Services Deputy Director Jane Akale has said that a total number of 63,000 shoats had been vaccinated and treated by Saturday.
