Deputy Governor, Dr John Erus met with APHRC representatives to discuss launching a research initiative to enhance malnutrition screening in Turkana county.
This innovative approach seeks to improve the accuracy of malnutrition detection among vulnerable populations.
DG Erus stated that Turkana has a lot of opportunities, and if combined with effective strategies and research, Turkana can address health matters effectively.
“Quality research is key in addressing health issues in the county. This initiative underscores the commitment of the county government and its partners to address malnutrition and promote better health solutions, especially for our children,” DG Erus added.
Dr Florence Mugo, Nutrition Coordinator at the division of nutrition and dietetics at the Ministry of Health
recommended string policies to solve health challenges.
“We have come up with policies and strategies to overcome malnutrition challenges as we empower women to take on WASH practices. Early detection is expected to facilitate timely treatment and ultimately lead to improved health outcomes for the affected children,” she said.
The project, funded by the Research Triangle International (RTI), will be implemented by the African populations and Research Centre (APHRC) in partnership with the county government.
The meeting was also attended by county government officials from the Department of Health and partner representatives from Save the Children, International Rescue Committee (IRC), and UNICEF.
